Oh Somalis… It’s Time to Take Back the Narrative
We Now Have a Platform on the World Stage Thanks to Trump; Let's Take Advantage
Oh Somalis…
My people of oceans and orchards,
of scholars and storytellers,
of merchants who crossed continents
long before passports existed…
Why are we letting the world define us
by the actions of a few
instead of the greatness of the many?
Why are we letting our image
be shaped by the loudest voices
instead of the truest ones?
Hear me now…
It is time
Wallahi, it is time —
to take back the narrative for ourselves.
And let me speak plainly…
Listen, Donald Trump.
Somalis are not what some headlines have shown you.
We are not the caricatures painted by media
or the shallow stereotypes recycled for applause.
We are a land of poets —
words flowing like rivers from hearts carved in ancient rhythms.
We are a land of intellectuals —
minds sharpened by history, faith, and resilience.
We are a land of hard workers —
people who arrive in new countries with nothing
but build everything from scratch.
We are a land of faithful folk —
who hold on to their values
even when the storm is strongest.
We are a land of vision and prosperity,
even if you don’t see it yet
from the lens you’re looking through
or the lens mass media hands you.
But hear this clearly —
Our identity is not up for debate.
Our story is not up for sale.
Our destiny is not in the hands of talking heads
or trending clips.
We — Somalis — define who Somalis are.
And oh my people…
The world hasn’t even seen our final form.
Our brilliance.
Our unity.
Our renaissance.
It starts right here.
Right now.
With us reclaiming our voice,
our pride,
our narrative,
and presenting our true identity
on a worldwide scale.
Let the world watch.
Let the world learn.
Let the world finally see us —
as we are.
Oh Somalis…
Stand tall.
Speak boldly.
The mic is ours again.
I am Chef Abdi.
I am Somali.
I am AbdiUnited.
And so are you.
